A major breakthrough has been achieved in the marine industry, as Korea Precision Machinery Company successfully developed a 11-meter-diameter propeller. The model, named HPMC-110, is now recognized as the largest machined propeller in the world. Previously, only German and Japanese manufacturers could produce such large-scale propellers, with the maximum diameter being around 10.4 meters.
The project, which took three years to complete, required an investment of $3.6 million. The HPMC-110 can handle a processing load of up to 130 tons, demonstrating the company's advanced manufacturing capabilities. This development marks a significant milestone for South Korea, as it had previously relied on foreign suppliers for critical components like large marine propellers.
With the introduction of HPMC-110, local companies are expected to save between $15 million and $20 million annually in foreign exchange. This not only strengthens Korea’s industrial independence but also boosts its competitiveness in the global maritime sector. The successful production of this massive propeller highlights the country's growing expertise in high-precision engineering and advanced manufacturing technologies.
