HSMWorks 2015: Delivering World-class CAM to the SolidWorks Community

Today, Autodesk made a big announcement about the launch of HSMWorks 2015, a complete CAM solution designed specifically for SolidWorks users. This latest version marks the third major release since Autodesk took over HSMWorks back in October 2012. During this period, the company has rolled out twelve updates, each packed with hundreds of new features and improvements. These updates have empowered users to seamlessly transform their designs and assemblies into machined parts, all within an integrated design-to-manufacturing workflow. Senior Vice President at Autodesk, Robert "Buzz" Kross, shared his thoughts: "This new release really reflects our unwavering dedication to our customers, no matter what CAD system they prefer. User feedback has shown us that HSMWorks is highly valued for its seamless integration, ease of use, and performance. With this update, we've taken the software a step further by introducing some groundbreaking new features." HSMWorks 2015, which now supports SolidWorks 2015, comes loaded with numerous enhancements, including a major upgrade to Adaptive Clearing, a cutting-edge high-efficiency roughing technology. By optimizing toolpath movement to maintain constant cutter engagement while removing material, this update significantly cuts down on machining cycle times. Additionally, the revamped Adaptive Roughing feature now offers taper support for helical ramps, advanced stay-down linking, and optimized z-level transitions, all contributing to faster cycles and more efficient machine operations. The stock simulation has been improved in 3D mode, providing better performance—key for mold and die industries working with large 3D models and sculpted surfaces. ![HSMWorks 2015_1_1](link) ![HSMWorks 2015_3_4](link) ![HSMWorks 2015_4_4](link) In addition to HSMWorks 2015, a free version called HSMXpress 2015 has been released. This version provides professional CAM capabilities exclusively for 2-1/2 Axis milling projects. HSMXpress includes all the 2D Milling and Drilling functions available in HSMWorks, along with solid part simulation and a post-processing system. HSMWorks 2015 also supports the latest Intel Xeon processors and high-end workstations, such as the HP Z840 Workstation, capable of being configured with up to 36 total processor cores per system. This allows HSMWorks 2015 to leverage the latest computational power to speed up toolpath calculations and post-processing times, making it easier to handle last-minute design changes and deliver CNC programs to the shop floor faster. Anthony Graves, CAM Product Manager at Autodesk, emphasized: "Our development focus is entirely on delivering tools that help users achieve professional-quality results, regardless of their skill level. HSMWorks has always been shaped by customer feedback, and this release is a perfect example of how user input leads to better software." Longtime HSMWorks and SolidWorks user, Steve Pearson, president and lead engineer at Wills Wing, expressed relief: "When Autodesk acquired a tool that had become integral to my manufacturing processes, I was concerned about the future. However, with the release of HSMWorks 2015, I feel more confident than ever that Autodesk is committed to both the HSMWorks product and the SolidWorks community." **Pricing and Availability** HSMWorks 2015 is available today in English, German, and Japanese, accessible through a global network of authorized HSMWorks resellers.
