Countryside training with new rigs>
The Countryside Fire Department in MABAS Division 4 has been conducting multiple days of training exercises for their firefighters and neighboring departments. Two of Countryside's newest vehicles are actively involved in these drills: the IHC/US Tanker 2,000-gallon tanker (also known as a tender) and the IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine. Dan McInerney shared several photos taken during the sessions held on Wednesday.
Dan provides further details about the training:
"It's taking place in a two-story house located on a five-acre property. The house was constructed back in 1948 using masonry with lathe and plaster over true dimensional lumber. All three shifts from Countryside (CTYD) will take part in the training on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The CTYD Command Officers will join the session on Thursday evening. Departments such as Lake Zurich, Wauconda, and Lincolnshire – Riverwoods are contributing by sending one engine each day with their respective on-duty personnel. Water is being transported in via tender trucks and then drawn from a portable tank by the wildland engine for the main attack lines. A secondary water source is provided by the tender truck. The training activities involve hose advancement and fire attack drills. Given the house's sturdy construction, the fire simulations are quite effective, and so far, the upstairs rooms have endured extensive exposure to flames. Modern buildings just don't compare! By the way, there's another interesting structure—a house on an island in the middle of Countryside Lake that we plan to burn eventually, but it won't be used for training since it can only be accessed by boat."
Here are some additional images captured during the training:
Engine 415, a 2010 model IHC 4400 equipped with a Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine, features a 1,250-gallon-per-minute pump and carries 750 gallons of water. This image highlights the unique design of the vehicle.
Another photo showcases Tender 411 and Engine 415 positioned near a portable tank, preparing to supply multiple hand lines for the firefighting teams. The rear pump design allows for efficient drafting operations directly from the engine.
A rear view of the Rosenbauer Timberwolf engine reveals the strategically placed pump and operator's panel at the rear of the unit, optimizing accessibility and functionality.
Tender 411 is seen emptying its tank into the portable tank through a side dump valve, enabling continuous drafting operations from the engine.
Lastly, Countryside's Engine 411, a 2001 Pierce Dash 2000/1000/30 model, was also present at the training site, contributing to the diverse range of equipment utilized during these exercises.
These efforts underscore Countryside Fire Department's commitment to maintaining high standards of readiness and preparedness across their jurisdiction and beyond.
