Countryside training with new rigs
The Countryside Fire Department in MABAS Division 4 has been conducting several days of intensive training sessions for their firefighters and neighboring departments. This initiative aims to enhance firefighting skills and improve coordination among different teams. Countryside has deployed two of its latest units at the training site: the IHC/US Tanker, a 2,000-gallon tanker (tender), and the IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine. Dan McInerney shared some compelling images from Wednesday’s activities.
Dan provided the following detailed description of the training:
"The training takes place in a two-story house situated on a five-acre property. The house was constructed in 1948 and features masonry construction with lathe and plaster over true dimensional lumber. All three shifts of Countryside (CTYD) will be participating on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The CTYD Point of Contacts (POCs) will undergo specialized training on Thursday evening. Additionally, neighboring departments such as Lake Zurich, Wauconda, and Lincolnshire–Riverwoods are sending an engine daily with their on-duty personnel. Water is being transported using tenders and drafted out of a portable tank by the wildland engine for the main attack hoses, while the tender serves as a secondary/backup water source. The exercises focus on hose advancement and fire attack techniques. Thanks to the robust construction of the house, the fire scenarios have proven highly effective so far. The upstairs rooms have endured a significant amount of stress during these drills. It’s safe to say they don’t make houses like this anymore! Interestingly, there is another house located on an island within Countryside Lake that we plan to burn down eventually, but it won't be used for training purposes. Accessible only by boat, it adds a unique challenge to our operations."

These images and descriptions provide a vivid glimpse into the rigorous training regimen that Countryside Fire Department and its partners are undertaking. The use of real-world scenarios and cutting-edge equipment ensures that firefighters are prepared for any situation they might encounter in the field.
