Wauconda 2nd Alarm house fire 1-23-13>
A fire broke out in an attached garage at 26703 N. Main Street in an unincorporated area of Wauconda this afternoon, prompting a quick response from local firefighters. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames engulfing the two-story house’s garage, with the fire threatening to spread into the living area. The incident was immediately upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional units to the scene for support.
Despite the intensity of the fire, the damage remained largely confined to the garage. Firefighters quickly advanced two lines into the structure to prevent further spread, and the blaze was fully under control within 30 minutes of the initial call. While the home sustained smoke damage throughout, only a small section near the garage wall showed signs of direct fire damage.
Mutual aid companies from nearby areas, including Long Grove, Countryside, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, Nunda, Lake Zurich, Cary, and Mundelein, assisted in the response. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived on scene just as the fire was being extinguished and managed to capture several images of the emergency and the responding units.
The garage suffered extensive damage, with part of the roof partially collapsed. Firefighters worked diligently to remove debris and wet down any remaining smoldering areas. A charred car was found inside the garage, and the fire department's tower ladder was positioned in front of the house as part of the operation. A tanker truck was also set up to support the engine working on the fire.
