1, the tools needed in the removal of the old packing root need to use a special tool, and with the fastener pre-gland nut. In addition, regular safety equipment and compliance with relevant safety regulations are required.

Prior to installation, first familiarize yourself with the following equipment: Cutter to verify the packing ring, calibrate the torque wrench or wrench, helmet, internal and external calipers, fasteners lubricants, mirrors, pan picker, Tools, vernier caliper and so on.

2, cleaning and inspection. Slowly loosen the gland nut of the stuffing box to release any residual pressure in the packing assembly, remove any old packing and thoroughly clean the shaft / rod stuffing box; check shaft / rod for corrosion, dents, scratches Or excessive wear; Check other parts for glitches, cracks, wear, they will reduce the packing life; Check the packing box for excessive clearance and shaft / rod eccentricity; Replace the larger defects of parts; : Check the old packing root as a basis for failure analysis to find out the reasons for the early failure of the packing.

3, measurement and recording. Record shaft / rod diameter, stuffing box aperture and depth, and when sealing the ring with water, record the distance from the bottom to the top of the stuffing box.

4, choose packing. Make sure that the chosen packing should meet the operating conditions required by the system and the equipment. Calculate the packing cross-sectional area and the number of packing rings required based on the measurement records. Check the packing to ensure it is defect-free. Before installation, ensure Equipment and packing clean.

5, packing ring preparation. Braided packing Winding the packing on a suitably dimensioned shaft or using a calibrated packing ring cutter; cutting the packing neatly into pairs (square) or miter (30-45 degrees) on request, cutting one at a time Ring, and with the shaft or stem to check the size is appropriate.

Molded packing, to ensure that the ring size and shaft or stem with the precise fit, if necessary, according to the packing manufacturer's operating guidelines or requirements cutting ring.

6, installation packing. Carefully install a packing ring at a time, placing each ring around a shaft or stem. Before installing the next ring, make sure the ring is fully seated in the stuffing box and the next ring should be staggered, at least 90 degrees apart, the general requirements of 120 degrees. After the last ring is installed, tighten the nut by hand and press it down evenly. If there is a water seal, check that it is at the correct distance from the top of the stuffing box. At the same time to ensure that the shaft or stem can rotate freely.

7, adjust the packing.

1) Pump packing

(1) Continue to tighten the gland nut by hand;

(2) After opening the pump, adjust the gland nut, at this time allow a little more leakage;

(3) Slowly tighten the gland nut to gradually reduce the leakage until the leakage reaches an acceptable level.

(4) If the leakage suddenly stops, screw the gland nuts back and adjust to prevent overheating of the packing.

(5) adjust the leakage rate to a steady state can be.

2) valve packing. Consult the packing manufacturer or your company's technical department for torque ratings or percentage compression. Tighten the gland nuts as follows.

(1) Apply torque to the gland nut to 30% of full torque or the party's compression percentage;

(2) repeatedly open and close the valve several times, when the valve is in the closed position, exert all the torque;

(3) Repeat step (2) 3 or 4 times.

8, fastening and replacement again. After a few hours of operation, check the adjustment of the gland and tighten it if necessary. When the gland can not be further adjusted, the packing must be replaced.
