The Robbins Fire Department, located within MABAS Division 22, has recently been added to our website. This department operates out of a single fire station that houses four pumpers, a tower ladder, and a mini-pumper. Their fleet includes engines from reputable manufacturers such as Darley, E-ONE, Fire-Max, and HME. Interestingly, the Darley engine previously served with the Orland Fire Protection District, while the E-ONE unit was transferred from Riverside. Additionally, they have a mini-pumper constructed by Hammerly on what was initially described as a Dodge chassis but later corrected to a Ford chassis. This particular vehicle once belonged to a department on the East Coast, which was later specified as Libertyville, Illinois. Attached is an image showcasing the Robbins Fire Department station at 3327 W. 137th Street, featuring distinctive Chicago-style red doors adorned with company insignias (credit: Karl Klotz). Another photograph highlights Engine 2923, which formerly saw action in Riverside, IL (credit: Dennis McGuire, Jr.). A third picture displays another engine from the Robbins fleet, this time Engine 2913, originally built for the Orland Fire Protection District as part of an order for five vehicles from Darley, mounted on Spartan Gladiator chassis. Alongside these engines, there was also a 55-foot Snorkel and a 100-foot LTI rear-mount tower ladder included in that batch (credit: Dennis McGuire, Jr.). In terms of emergency medical services, Robbins provides initial responder support to complement Bud’s Ambulance Service, which holds the contract for advanced life support (ALS) services in the area. Despite being a relatively small department, Robbins plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and responding swiftly to emergencies across their jurisdiction. As we continue to explore more departments across Illinois, it's fascinating to see how different towns manage their resources while adhering to regional standards set by organizations like MABAS. This update not only enriches our database but also underscores the importance of documenting local firefighting history and practices. If you happen to visit Robbins or any other fire stations mentioned here, consider sharing your experiences or photos—we'd love to hear from you! For now, enjoy learning about this vibrant community and its dedicated firefighters who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everyone safe.
