Drying equipment

The Oleon Company of Belgium announced on June 28 that it had put into production the world’s first bio-propylene glycol production facility in Ertvelde. The device uses technologies and catalysts developed by BASF. This technology produces fewer steps than the traditional hydrolysis of propylene glycol.

The total investment of the device is 8.2 million euros (about 10.2 million US dollars), and the production capacity exceeds 20,000 tons/year. Production of propylene glycol from glycerine, a by-product from oleochemicals, biodiesel, and animal fats and vegetable oils, can reduce CO2 emissions by 70% compared to petroleum-based propylene glycol.
