Leyden 3-11 (part 2)

Leyden 3-11 (part 2)

Yesterday, I had the chance to witness an intense fire incident at the Leyden Township 3-11 location. Several incredible photographers captured some stunning images that really tell the story of how this situation unfolded. Steve Redick, Jeff Rudolph, and Larry Shapiro were kind enough to share their photos from the scene. One particularly striking image taken by Jeff Rudolph shows flames clearly visible from an eastern vantage point after the roof had collapsed. It’s a dramatic shot that captures the raw power of the fire. Another impressive photo from Jeff shows Westchester’s E-ONE Cyclone aerial ladder setting up an elevated master stream on the east side of the ‘A’ sector. This image highlights the strategic efforts of the firefighters as they worked to contain the blaze. Larry Shapiro also contributed some great shots, including one where Northlake Engine 808 is positioned on the street, waiting for water from an in-line operation. His other image, taken from the front of the address, shows Westchester’s master stream in action. Another compelling image from Larry captures Leyden Quint 133 operating on the west side of the driveway with both an elevated master stream and several hand lines. Steve Redick’s contributions include a shot of Elmwood Park firefighters carrying a 5-inch line to Northlake Engine 808. In another image, he provides an overview of the western exposure of the fire building from the adjacent vacant lot. These photos really give you a sense of the scale and complexity of the firefighting effort required. Bensenville firefighters can be seen pulling hose from Engine 89 to add more hand lines into operation, aiming to tackle the numerous hotspots within the ruins. River Grove Engine 565, a Pierce Saber, is seen pumping in-line to Bensenville Engine 89 in the rear sector, showcasing the teamwork between departments. Stone Park Engine 908, the only E-ONE Quest engine in MABAS Division 20, is photographed on a hydrant east of the fire scene on Grand Avenue. For those interested, there’s a gallery of Steve Redick’s images available [here], and Larry Shapiro’s collection can be viewed [here]. These galleries offer even more detailed perspectives of the event, capturing moments that truly reflect the dedication and skill of the firefighters involved. It was certainly a memorable day, filled with challenges but also inspiring examples of teamwork and resilience.
