This message comes from Eric Haak regarding the Still & Box Alarm fire that occurred yesterday on Blue Island Avenue: --- Around 11:50 AM on Sunday, Engine 23 responded to reports of smoke coming from the roof of a two-story, 400 x 100-foot commercial building just off the corner of Blue Island and Damen. The structure is part of the extensive production complex for Hofmeister Hams. By noon, the fire had been contained by the Fourth Battalion. The initial responding units focused on a hose line on the roof, while another 2 1/2-inch line was deployed inside. The fire was brought under control relatively quickly. The primary companies on scene included Engine 23 and Tower Ladder 5, Engine 18, and Truck 8, with Battalion 2 and Truck 32 serving as Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT). I didn’t notice any box engines being utilized, as they were stationed further down Cermak. There were roofers working on the building at the time, but no definitive cause of the fire has been confirmed yet.
