Nationwide Boiler Announces Hydrogen Firing Capabilities for Existing Fleet of Rental Boilers

Nationwide Boiler Inc., a top-tier boiler supplier with over 100 units in its rental fleet, has made a significant announcement: it can now operate its package watertube rental boilers using hydrogen as a fuel. This move comes at a time when climate change and decarbonization are major global priorities, and it reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation within the boiler industry.

Hydrogen combustion differs significantly from natural gas, but Nationwide Boiler’s engineering team has extensive experience and data supporting the use of hydrogen-blend fuels in package boilers. The company’s high-quality construction standards—featuring premium valves, fuel trains, burners, and system components—mean that minimal upgrades are needed for hydrogen firing. Their current watertube rental boilers, ranging from 30,000 to 125,000 pounds per hour, can all run on up to 20% hydrogen blended with natural gas without any modifications. For higher hydrogen content, further evaluations and potential burner adjustments will be necessary.
