Honda's global auto production fell 52.9% in April

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that its car production in the world in April 2011 fell by 52.9% year-on-year to 138,500 vehicles. The sharp decline in vehicle output was due to the earthquake in Japan in March. The supply chain has caused an impact, especially the shortage of automotive electronic parts.

It is understood that due to the damage to the Hitachi microprocessor chip's production line, the supply of spare parts for many auto parts companies including Honda and Toyota has been insufficient. Hiroaki Ito, president of Honda Tech Co., Ltd., once said that the three major car companies in Japan have joined forces to assist this chip maker.

Honda Motor Co. expressed that starting from April 1, Honda’s factory production in Ohio, Alabama and Indiana will be affected. In addition, Honda's factories in Mexico and Canada will also face the same problem.

In addition, Honda’s domestic automobile factory in Japan completely resumed production on April 11. However, in the initial phase of the resumption of production, the entire vehicle and parts production capacity can only be restored to 50% of the normal level.
