Chinese and foreign "bridge doctors" jointly develop new "artifacts" for bridge health monitoring

[China Instrument Network Instrument R&D] On November 9th, China Railway Bridge (Nanjing) Bridge Tunnel Diagnosis and Treatment Co., Ltd. and the UK-UK project team such as the University of Nottingham UK jointly applied for the cooperation project of China (Jiangsu)-UK Industry Challenge Cooperation Program - Large Bridge Structure The joint R&D of the smart health monitoring cloud platform - iSHM scientific research project kick-off meeting was held in the auditorium of Southeast University. Prof. Meng Xiaolin from the University of Nottingham, UK, Liu Hua, General Manager of China Railway Bridge (Nanjing) Bridge Tunnel Treatment Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager Yue Qing and Assistant General Manager Wu Laiyi attended the meeting. Mr. Gareth Taylor, Counsellor of Science and Technology and Innovation of the British Consulate-General in Shanghai, was also invited to participate in the project kick-off meeting held at Southeast University.

The project aims to study and establish a large-scale bridge infrastructure health and intelligence cloud monitoring platform system and conduct demonstration on 2-3 bridges in Jiangsu Province. The project will conduct in-depth research on low-cost, high-performance bridge-specific sensors, bridge structural health indicators, monitoring data processing technologies, and new methods for bridge health monitoring based on machine learning and cloud computing, and integrate the above research results. Oversized bridge structure and other major infrastructure health intelligence cloud monitoring platform - iSHM.
Since 2013, the British team led by the University of Nottingham, UK, and China Railway Bridge Survey and Design Institute have jointly completed the GeoSHM feasibility study funded by the European Space Agency. On November 4, 2015, the China Railway Bridge Survey and Design Institute and Nottingham, UK The University signed a memorandum of cooperation in Ningbo to further deepen cooperation and exchange between the two sides in the field of bridges. In March 2016, China Railway Bridge Institute and UbiPOS and the University of Nottingham, UK successfully applied for the ESA GeoSHM demonstration project again. In May 2016, the two parties jointly held a project launch meeting in Wuhan; in May 2017, the project technology was launched. At the same time, the program review meeting and the two parties jointly held the China-UK infrastructure health monitoring seminar in Wuhan. The various cooperation and technical exchanges have achieved good social results. The newspaper has reported on these activities.
With the current emphasis on building bridges, the rapid development of information technology, cloud computing, big data, Internet+, and Industry 4.0 have led to the wisdom and modernization of bridges. The cooperation between China and the United Kingdom and Jiangsu Province in launching a large-scale bridge infrastructure health intelligence cloud monitoring platform will surely lead the new development of bridge construction, realize a new leap in bridge management, ensure the safety of large-scale infrastructure, and lay a solid foundation for the development of Jiangsu.
