Apartment fire in Wheeling, 3-11-23

Wheeling and Prospect Heights firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 375 Plum Creek Drive on Saturday morning. Upon arrival, crews discovered flames originating from a third-floor balcony on the south side of the building. The incident was quickly upgraded to a Working Fire, prompting additional units from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Glenview, Des Plaines, Niles, North Maine FPD, and Northbrook to join the effort. Firefighters from Wheeling Truck 24 initiated an exterior attack using a 2 1/2-inch line at ground level. Meanwhile, Engine 23 and Engine 24 entered the building to conduct an interior suppression operation and extinguish the fire within the affected apartment. One resident was evacuated and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The fire is currently under control, and no injuries have been reported beyond the one resident transported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and residents in the area were advised to remain cautious as cleanup and damage assessment continue.
