Apartment fire in Wheeling 11-10-11
The Wheeling Fire Department received a call on Thursday morning regarding a smoke odor detected in one unit of a three-unit townhouse located at 303 Kingswood Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a small fire burning within a wall of the unit. It was later determined that workers had been working on the plumbing, which likely caused the fire to ignite. The flames quickly spread up the adjacent wall, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 for a working fire.
To manage the situation, Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Northbrook Engine 10, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52 were dispatched to support the Wheeling crews on the scene. Firefighters acted swiftly, containing the fire before it could spread further into the structure. Wheeling Tower 42 was assigned to the 'A' sector and successfully ventilated the roof, while Buffalo Grove Tower 25 made its way to the 'B-C' corner of the building from the adjacent street.
Several photos captured the incident, showing the emergency response in action. One image highlights Buffalo Grove Tower 25 deployed to the roof at the B-C corner, while another shows Wheeling Engine 42 operating alongside Engine 24 as the tower moved to the south end of the structure. Additional images depict the ventilation work being carried out by Tower 42 and the truck company clearing attic vents and cutting a ventilation hole. Another photo captures Engine 42 with two lines entering the building during the operation.
