Maywood 3rd Alarm fire 5-26-12>
The Chicago Tribune reported that around 20 to 25 people were forced to leave their homes after two three-story apartment buildings caught fire in Maywood on Friday night.
Firefighters from over a dozen nearby communities responded to the blaze, which was classified as a 3-11 alarm incident. The fire broke out on the 1000 block of 11th Avenue and took crews approximately two hours to bring under control, according to Maywood Fire Chief John Cadigan.
The first alarm was triggered around 9:30 p.m., and investigators were still at the scene late into the early hours of Saturday morning. At this time, no official cause of the fire had been determined.
Steve Redick arrived at the scene after the fire had been extinguished and captured several photos documenting the aftermath. His images provide a visual account of the damage caused by the fire.
