India will increase the number of looms by 50% over the next five years

The Indian Power Weaving Department plans to increase the number of looms by 50% over the next five years.

This is a challenging goal, but we can achieve it. Bharatkumar M, President, Power Loom Development and Export Promotion Council. Chhajar said on Saturday.

There are now 2.25 million power looms in the country. The committee envisages increasing the number of looms by 50% by 2015. Indian weaving companies should increase production and export products to all parts of the world. Weaving mills should have the ability to participate in global competition by increasing production.

The Federal Textile Department may reintroduce the Extended Technology Closer Fund Plan and the Integrated Textile Park Plan in January 2011 and extend the two plans for another two years. The Power Weaving Department expects to increase production by 25% during this period.

Mr. Chhajar said that in the past five years, the weaving industry has grown. They are now using rapier looms and shuttleless looms to produce wider fabrics. In the past five years, a large number of conventional power looms have been replaced by shuttleless looms and automated looms. Production therefore increased by 35%.

In the existing looms, about 1 million are in the cotton fabric business. The total fabric of the country is 36 billion square meters, of which nearly half is cotton and blended fabrics.

One of the main problems faced by domestic weaving companies is the shortage of raw materials and the high price of yarn. Compared with Pakistan or Turkey, yarn prices are higher. Therefore, Indian products appear to be expensive in the international market.
