Founded on November 16, 1957, China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, formerly known as the First Branch of the Fifth Department of the Ministry of National Defense, and the first dean of Qian Xuesen. It is the birthplace of China's space. In the past 50 years, under the cordial care of the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission, under the correct guidance of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission and the General Armament Department, under the direct leadership of the party group of the Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, in various provinces, cities, and industries across the country. Under the concerted efforts, the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology has embarked on a road of development of a launch vehicle with Chinese characteristics and achieved great results.
In the past 50 years, the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology has developed and produced 10 models of the Long March series of launch vehicles and has been put into use. It has been promoted from normal temperature to low temperature, from series to bundle, from one arrow to one arrow. From the launching of satellites to the launch of manned spacecraft technology, it has the ability to launch low-Earth orbit, sun-synchronous orbit, and geostationary orbit spacecraft, with reliability, economy, accuracy and adaptability reaching world-class levels, and It has a place in the international commercial satellite launch service market. The Long March series of launch vehicles have achieved 100 launches, making China the fourth country to achieve 100 launches after the United States, Russia and the European Union. Of the 103 launches completed by the Long March series of launch vehicles, 82 were launched by the launch vehicle developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and have achieved 44 consecutive successes since October 1996.
In April 1970, China launched its first artificial satellite, marking the beginning of China’s entry into space. In October 2003 and October 2005, the launch of the manned spacecraft was a complete success, realizing the dream of the Chinese nation's millennium flying, making China the third country in the world to carry out manned space activities independently. On October 24, 2007, Chang'e-1 was successfully launched, achieving China's first deep space exploration.
